Exercise can be bad for you!

Exercise can be bad for you

Did you know that exercise can be bad for you?

Well it can be and it is important to know when this is the case.

Your body is under stress all day.  Chemicals such as Adrenaline, Norepinephrine and Cortisol are constantly being released into your blood stream.

This cocktail of chemicals was useful back in prehistoric times when we needed them to prepare us to flee the tiger or prepare us to fight it but today that tiger represents a whole range of other things.

It is an email from you boss, a telephone call that you don’t want to make, children that are sick, teenagers that are pushing your buttons, bills that have to be paid or exercise that you hate doing. Put all of these things together and what you get is a constant flow of stress hormones circulating in your blood stream that over time can lead to serious health issues.

So what does this have to do with exercise?

  1. Claire, since I turned 50, I have found that the intense, hard on my joints exercise, makes me feel bad, especially for the next several days. I have chosen to not run with the group of guys that get together early in the morning, not do high impact aerobic exercises, and prefer yoga and running by myself. This way I can control the speed and distance myself instead of being concerned about keeping up with everyone else. I enjoy it much better that way!

    • Shari, thank you so much for sharing. It is so easy to dig your head in the sand and not be aware of your feelings or just try to ignore what your body is saying to you. I have always been a avid exerciser (an 80’s aerobic instructor, yes that was me in the lycra) and my head keeps telling me that I have to dig in and feel pain to get results. It’s hard to silence that voice but like you I have put things in place to try and manage it and now I so look forward to doing my yoga. By the way I love your website goldenhealer.com your intro on the home page speaks to my heart.
