Last week I gave you my first top 5 deposits to add to your happiness bank account in order to create a sustainable base of happiness.

This week I have 5 more deposits that will help you build on your happiness, so that when you hit a tough spot you will have a great foundation of happiness to help you through it.

Transcript – Invest in your happiness

Hi is Claire here from the HappinessBankTV and this week blog is part 1 of a 2 part series of my top 10 deposits that you need to put into your happiness account in order to be a happier person.  So here we go.

Number one – deposit some gratefulness

We are hardwired to focus on the negative. For many of us it is easier to recall and focus on events that make us feel angry and fearful rather than focusing on events that make us feel joyful and thankful. You can rewire your brain for happiness by consciously and deliberately being grateful for all of the wonderful things in your life. If you are struggling to recall these amazing things let me jog your memory, be grateful for the water that runs freely out of your tap, the lights that come on when you flick a switch, the freedom you have as you walk out your front door, the food that you have on your table, the bed that you have to sleep in, the lounge that you have to sit. Do you get the drift…

Number two – deposit some mindfulness

Mindfulness is concentrating fully and intently on the present moment without any form of judgment. When you enter this space and let go of all thoughts about the past and all thoughts about the future you are truly living in the moment. This moment in your life is all that is guaranteed. Enjoy it, embrace it and practice it every day. By doing this you will be creating space for happiness.

Number three – deposit some engagement

When you are engaged in doing something that you love, time stands still. It doesn’t feel like you are ‘working’, it excites you, it satisfies you and you get a little happy dance in your tummy when you think about doing it.  Find something that engages you and make sure you do it as often as possible.

Number four – deposit some exercise

Moving your body every day by doing some form of exercise that makes you huff and puff for at least 30 continuous minutes will not only make you feel happier it will also help to build a strong and healthy body. When you do this your body releases endorphins. These endorphins attach themselves to specific receptors sites in your brain that effect your perception of wellbeing and if you are lucky make you feel euphoric.

Number five – deposit some colourful foods

If the colour of the food on your plate is a sea of beige I can guarantee that you will be eating food that is high in fat, high in sugar and high in salt. This is a recipe for unhappiness. If you add some colour to your plate with natural wholefoods you will be filling up your body with premium fuel. You will have more energy, be able to think clearer, move more easily and be healthier from the inside out. Now that is a recipe for happiness!

If you are a regular happiness bank investor you would have heard me say it before, the more you proactively and consciously deposit into your account the more sustainable happiness you will create so that when life gets a bit tough and you have to make a withdrawal you will have a good solid base of happiness ready to cushion your fall.

    And I love my hammock as well. If I get to lie in the hammock for even a short while on the weekend and look up at the birds flying about the garden then I feel restored.
